Gospel Choir

St. Mary’s Gospel Choir is comprised of individuals, from St. Mary’s and the surrounding community, who come together for 6 weeks, four times each year, in preparation for a rousing and spirit-filled Sunday service of Gospel repertoire. They sing a wide range of selections from traditional spirituals such as “I’ve got peace like a river” to the more contemporary as in “Joyful, Joyful” from the movie Sister Act, and even “Baba Yetu”, an adaptation of the Lord’s Prayer in Swahili.

We've been blessed with a who's who of directors, from Horace Clarence Boyer and Keith Hampton to Michele Thomas and Dent Davidson. Not to mention our own Kate Manning and Jackie Totsch, accompanist.

In rehearsing together friendships are formed, voices are enhanced, and spirits are truly revived!

Does singing bring you joy, but you think you shouldn’t sing outside the shower? Do you love spirited music? This choir is for you, and we’d love to have you. For more information please contact Stephanie Kitt at 847-698-9771.

Dent Davidson directsDent Davidson directsAlthough officially called Low Sunday, the week after Easter will be anything but low as our Gospel Choir raises their voices in song. St. Mary's is fortunate to have Dent Davidson as guest director this week. He is missioner for liturgy and the arts for the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago.

Below is a really rough, behind the scenes recording of one of our practices for Sunday's performance.
