Michael considers himself privileged to have been born, baptized, confirmed, married and ordained in the Episcopal Church. Michael and his wife Stephanie have been members of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church for the past twenty five years. During that time Michael has served two terms as a vestry member, served as parish treasurer for ten years, and has chaired or served as a liaison member of the Outreach Commission for the past twenty years. Ordained in February of 2002, Michael’s diaconal ministry is a reflection of the way he lives out his life; caring for the poor, the marginalized, and advocating for social justice.

Within the parish, Michael created and continues to run a soup kitchen ministry in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago. This ministry was established in 1987 and has provided food, clothing, healing and hope for literally thousands of homeless and marginalized people. He coordinates St. Mary’s relationship with her sister parish San Juan Bautista in the Diocese of Southeast Mexico having traveled there six times in the past five years. He is a member of St. Mary’s United Power for Action and Justice Core Team which is currently working on health care, immigration and affordable housing issues and serves as a member of United Powers leadership team. Within the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago, Michael serves as Chair of the Commission on Global Mission which governs our relationships with our two companion dioceses: the Diocese of Southeast Mexico in Southern Mexico and the Diocese of Renk in the Sudan, Africa. Michael has held this office for the past two years. He is a member of the Formation Committee which directs and supports the formation process of every Deacon in the Diocese and is a mentor to students in formation. Michael has also served in several leadership roles in liturgy and formation programs for ordained and lay ministry at the diocesan level. Michael serves as a Director on the Board of C4: Community Counseling Centers of Chicago, one of the largest non-profit behavioral health care service providers in Illinois. He is a Board member of Canterbury Northwestern; Northwestern University’s Episcopal Campus Ministry and serves as its Treasurer. He serves as vice-chair of the Development Board for the Christian Community Alternative Academy, an alternative high school in the inner city of Chicago. Michael serves as Chief Financial Officer of The Delves Group, a Chicago-based consulting firm that specializes in executive compensation, corporate governance and employee and sales force compensation consulting. He has served as CFO of The Delves Group since June 2006. Michael also serves as an independent financial consultant to several non-profit organizations in the Chicago area that advocate for social justice and worker rights.
