The Rev. Jay Risk, Clergy Associate

The Rev. Jay Risk is Executive Director of Bishop Anderson House, an agency of Episcopal Charities and Community Services. Bishop Anderson House is the Episcopal Church’s ministry in the Illinois Medical District on Chicago’s West Side. Bishop Anderson House provides Pastoral Care by comforting the sick and supporting those who care for them. The Parish Lay Chaplains’ Program has trained over 200 volunteers who serve in nursing homes, hospitals and congregations throughout Northern Illinois.

Fr. Risk is an Assistant Professor in the College of Health Sciences of Rush University and is a Board Certified Chaplain. His interests in Spirituality and Medicine have drawn him to research in Spiritual Struggle and its impact on physical well being, and when he isn’t involved in the world of medicine and faith, he’s pursuing his love of the wilderness, birding and travel on his motorcycle. He is engaged to Paula Gleason.

Jay was in parish ministry for 27 years prior to his call to Bishop Anderson House. He was Interim Rector of St. Mary’s during the Rector Search Process in 2001-2 and continues to attend services at the parish when he is able. He serves as Vice-Chairman of the Commission on Ministry in the Diocese of Chicago.
