Sarah was called as the Rector of St. Mary’s in 2008. Prior to coming to St. Mary’s, Sarah served congregations in Virginia, Mississippi and California. Sarah earned her Master of Divinity degree from Virginia Theological Seminary in 2003. Before she sought a vocation in ministry, Sarah worked in banking, non-profit management and enjoyed seven years as a full-time parent when her children were little.

Sarah says of ministry, “I am passionate about parish ministry. As a very young person, it was in church that I learned to ‘dance with God’; there I experienced the joy of loving and worshipping God in the embrace of a supportive community. Knowing that there is nothing that can separate us from the love of God, we are graced with a joy that sustains us even when we are not happy. I am convinced this joy is found worshipping God in community. I infuse all that I do with this joy – I invite, encourage, cajole, inspire, pester, and convince others to join me in the dance.”

Sarah is married to Capt. Eric S. Odderstol (USN ret.). They live in Park Ridge with their two children, Elizabeth and Gibson. In her free time Sarah enjoys exploring Chicago-land, playing outside (even in the snow!), cooking, and reading. She tries to do something fun everyday!   read more »
