Adult Formation

The Adult Formation Commission provides year-around programs to inform, nurture and challenge adults along their life-long learning journey. We offer opportunities to learn about different subjects from theology to spirituality to Bible study to social justice, in a variety of settings from small group discussions to interactive workshops to lectures for the whole community. Many of our programs are on a “just drop-in” basis but we also offer a series of presentations, such as the Lenten program and this fall’s Hands-On Sustainability series.

For people who cannot attend our programs in person, we provide audio-recordings of some of our programs.

The Adult Formation Commission supports other ministries at St. Mary’s by making available Keeping God’s People Safe training and The Next Step discernment process. We also host third party programs such as the healthcare crisis in Illinois presentation by United Power for Action and Justice.

A Beginner’s Guide to Advent-by Amy- Jill Levine

Books can be purchased individually from Amazon.com or from Father Patrick. Please RSVP to Father Patrick (patrickskutch@stmaryspr.org) by Monday, November 25. Reading assignments will be given in advance.

In Light of the World, esteemed biblical scholar Amy-Jill Levine takes a fresh look at the sacred, beloved stories we tell this time of year. This is a wonderful study even for those who have heard the familiar stories year after year. Here is a preview:

The Episcopal Church: January 15, 22, 29

In January, Father Patrick will be presenting three classes on the history and faith of the Episcopal Church. These gatherings are especially appropriate for those who may be new or who are exploring membership in the Episcopal Church. The seminars will also serve as preparation for those wishing to be confirmed or received by the Bishop in February. Those desiring a refresher in these topics are also welcome to attend.
