Adult Faith Formation in 2022

We look forward to offering more frequent online Adult Faith Formation opportunities in 2022. Here are two offerings which may be of interest to you.

  • In the Beginning was the Word

        From Father Patrick

In the past year or so, I have discovered in myself a renewed hunger for Scripture as a source of spiritual nourishment and encounter with God.  These gatherings will be opportunities for the deepening of our faith in praying with and studying Holy Scripture.

At these sessions, we will gather on Zoom to reflect upon a passage of Scripture, a single book (that can be read over the previous month), or a theme or topic presented across the scriptures. The sessions will often include a presentation from me with time for discussion and group reflection. We will read Scripture spiritually together, study it through its language, history, and culture, and consider ways to deepen our understanding of it in our lives.

To begin, we will consider beginnings. We’ll start with the glorious prologue of St. John’s Gospel:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and lived among us.”

What do we mean when say of Jesus that he is the Word of God made flesh? What are the implications of this claim in our lives?

Join us via Zoom on January 26 at 7:00 P.M. for a reflection on John 1: 1-18. You do not need to read anything ahead of time, save for these verses in John’s Gospel. Please have a Bible with you.

  • Encountering God through Art

       Visio Divina with Deacon Laurie

       2/2, 2/9. And 2/16, on Zoom

Join Deacon Laurie in a three-week winter series that will explore the spiritual practice of Visio Divina also known as Divine Seeing. While Lectio Divina is a method of praying with scripture, Visio Divina is a method of praying with images or other media. Each week will explore a work of sacred art, the scripture associated with the painting and a time to see at a more contemplative pace beyond first and second impressions.

At a time when many of us are struggling to move through yet another winter of pandemic-related adjustments, Visio Divina is one form of contemplative prayer that may help us all to connect with God in this confusing time.

The program will take place on 2/2, 2/9 and 2/16 from 7-8:30 P.M. on the Zoom platform.
