*"Michele Thomas is an American jazz musician, vocalist and songwriter from Chicago, IL. From growing up singing in church, to co-founding North Park University’s gospel choir, to performing and teaching in Scandinavia, and then carrying that skill back to her hometown, Michele Thomas and her talents have carried her through a fantastic array of experiences within the massive world that is, music.
The daughter of a preacher, Michele Thomas brings an irresistible gospel-soul warmth to jazz. Michele’s performances, like her music itself, are deep and emotional - blending genres of jazz and soul together with elements of folk and using her voice and songwriting to stir something deeper within people. These performances hearken back to the sensibility of Sarah Vaughan, the atmospheric arrangements of Cassandra Wilson and fervent lyricism of Bill Withers.
Michele’s debut at the Chicago Jazz Festival marked the premiere of new original music that she has spent the past year writing and workshopping with her contemporary jazz project, SoulMeme. And with her next studio recording slated for 2019, it’s no wonder JazzReview.com deemed her as, “one of those new artists that you anxiously wait to hear more from…”"
