Welcoming Refugees, Next Steps
Recently we gathered together to organize ourselves around several opportunities to show welcome and love to refugees.
If you were not able to be at the meeting, but want to get involved, don't worry!
Here are descriptions of the service opportunities, and contact information for the organizers of each effort.
Welcome to American Pack: You will participate in gathering essential supplies for newly arriving refugees, and will have the opportunity to deliver them to the family with a warm welcome. If you are interested in the Welcome to America Pack, please be in touch with Kate Hannigan at email@example.com
New Neighbor Training: Working with others, you will agree to meet with a refugee or refugee family once a week, for about an hour and a half, over a period of three months. You will have fellowship with them and help them get acclimated to their new country. If you are interested in New Neighbor Training, please be in touch with Deb Kelliher (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Sally Manning (email@example.com).
Pop Up Gatherings: Pop-Up Gatherings are an opportunity to share a fun event, party, or meal with with a refugee community near their home in Chicago. It is an opportunity to get to know them and show them you are glad they are here. If you are interested in Pop-Up Gatherings, please be in touch with Aneel Trivedi at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Prayer Partnerships You will commit to pray regularly by name for refugees and the volunteers who work with them. If you are interested in prayer partnerships, please be in touch with Carol Breimeier at email@example.com.
Volunteer Education Team If you enjoy public speaking and interaction, and if you are interested in advocacy, this is a great way to get involved. You will be trained to go into churches and other communities and share information about who refugees are, where they come from, and how people can help welcome them. If you are interested in this, you can be in touch with Bill Olbrisch at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please join us in this wonderful effort! Blessings to all!
